Rare WW1 Royal Marines Cased Bronze Medallion Awarded for Bayonet Fighting made by F. Phillips of Aldershot

The obverse depicts a WW1 British Army soldier charging through the barb wired battlefields of Europe with his bayonet fitted to his rifle.

In small lettering near the lower rim is the maker’s name:

PHILLIPS ALDERSHOT

The reverse has the crest for the Royal Marines set in the centre and the upper edge has the engraved words:

BAYONET FIGHTING
The medallion still retains its original silk and felt lined dark blue leatherette case with the famous medal maker’s name printed under the lid:

F PHILLIPS
MEDALIST
ALDERSHOT

I believe the Royal Marines undertook physical training at the Aldershot Army barracks during WW1.

The medallion is in near mint condition with no edge nicks or dents.

This is a rare piece of WW1 memorabilia that relates to the Royal Marines.

The medallion measures 1.5” (3.8cm) diameter and weighs 28g.
