WW2 No.36 Type II British 'Rifle' Mills Grenade by J P & S Ltd Converted to a Table Lighter

Here on offer is great example of an inert original WW2 No.36 Type II British 'Rifle' Mills Grenade by J P & S Ltd Converted to a Table Lighter.

The front of the main body has the letters JPS stamped on it and on the back the number 1 and letter D.

This example is also fitted with a rare rifle grenade attachment base plate. It is stamped with J P & S Ltd and other ordinance marks, including a crows-foot and the letters HV and the number 40, for I assume the year 1940.

With the rifle plate removed you can see the aluminium plug that is marked with the letters SDR, Z and the dated 1942. In the centre there has been a hole drilled as part of the modification to use it as a lighter.

The lighter mechanism has been expertly fitted and is in working order, but the flint been removed and it doesn’t contain any fuel to comply with shipping regulations.

It has a brass cover that can extinguish the wick when closed and the flint wheel can be removed just by unscrewing the mechanism.

The grenade body and plate have a lovely dark patina finish to the metal.
