ANTIQUE SILVER PLATED STILTON CHEESE SCOOP WITH JAPANESE CARVED HANDLE 1860

Here on offer is a rare antique silver plated Stilton Cheese Scoop with a stunning Japanese carved cow bone handle, circa 1860.

The metal scoop and twisted stem are silver plated and are connected securely in place to the handle, by an ornate silver ferrule.

The very old bone handle is just a work of art, with various shaped leaves, including water lily, skilfully carved, with their stems making an arch to the handle wear it fits in the palm of the hand.

On the top you can see the very fine holes that confirm it is cow bone, and they have been shaped into the shell of a snail that looks like it is moving down the side of the handle.

There are various other natural tiny aged holes in the bone and a small age crack near the ferrule.

It is just a really rare and wonderful carved piece that fits perfectly in your hand.

There is also some loss of plating to the scoop and stem.

The Scoop is 10” (25.5cm) long and the scoop itself is 1” (2.5cm) wide.

It weighs 92.2g.
