Interwar Period Chrome Plated Table Lighter for The Devonshire Regiment with early Kestrel Riley Car Mascot

Here on offer is a stunning interwar period Chrome Plated Table Lighter for The Devonshire Regiment with an early rare “Kestrel” Riley Car Mascot.

This unique hand made piece has a cylindrical metal frame that holds the petrol lighter mechanism that is set on a round ribbed metal base, which is in turn mounted on a circular wooden (walnut) base.

The flint and fuel can be accessed via a large nut/screw under the green felted base.

On the front is inset a WW1 period version of a silver “The Devonshire Regiment” badge, so clearly this was made for a high ranking officer or the officers mess?

Interestingly the top removable cap that fits snuggly over the lighter has been mounted with a rare metal “Kestrel” Riley Car Badge. The car badge is hard to find and seem to sell for around £180 on its own!

I believe the mascot was made back in the early 1930’s so would date this piece to that period.

The lighter is in excellent condition and most of the thick chrome plating seems to be in place.

There is no fuel or flint fitted in accordance with shipping restrictions.

It makes a great display piece, which would make a centerpiece for military collectors of The Devonshire Regiment, or Riley Car enthusiasts.

Given the mascot can fetch £180 on its own, this piece is very reasonably priced at £225.

It measures 10” (25.4cm) high and 6.25” (16cm) diameter at the wooden base.

It weighs a heavy 1.1Kg.
