Very Rare French WWI Kewpie or Pixie Doll "FUMSUP" Postcard with Inset Glass Eyes c1914

Here on offer is an original and very rare French WW1 period FUMSUP Kewpie or Pixie doll postcard with inset glass eyes.

The postcard has the image of a lucky FUMSUP Kewpie or Pixie doll with a sash and basket of coloured flowers.

What is really unusual about this image is that it has tiny glass eyes inserted between the sheets of card used to make the postcard, that I have never seen before.

At the top are the French words:

je porte Bonheur

I believe this translates to:

I Bring Happiness

In the lower left hand corner, there is a possible makers mark, a triangle with PH and the number 5009.

FUMSUP was a popular name for good luck charms dating to the 19th and 20th century and it's believed to be a derivative of the saying "thumbs up" and was often given to WW1 soldiers as a “Good Luck” token that could be carried with them into battle.

The postcard has not been used and is in great condition, with just some tiny nicks to the front and a small crease. It is not perfectly flat, have just a slight curve to the edges, that would flatten out if placed in a folder.

It measures 5.3” (13.5cm) by 3.3” (8.4cm).

Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.
